The Open-Bio project aims at increasing the uptake speed of standards, labels and harmonized product information lists for bio-based products. It covers research and demonstration on direct and indirect biomass content methods, biodegradability and eco-toxicity tests. Practical solutions for stakeholders, lab and field tests on for instance sampling or capability of being recycled will be studied.more »
Biomass is a natural resource of particular importance. To satisfy the needs of the world population, a more efficient and sustainable use of biomass is essential. Many experts agree that raw materials like biomass should be used several times in a cascading sequence of material uses as efficiently as possible. Furthermore, biomass should only be used energetically at the end of the materials life cycle. This principle is defined as cascading use of biomass.more »

Ziel dieses Projekts ist es, Handlungsempfehlungen für die Durchführung und politische Inwertsetzung von Ökobilanzen für die stoffliche Nutzung von land- und forstwirtschaftlicher Biomasse zu erstellen. Der Fokus liegt hierbei besonders auf den methodischen Herausforderungen, die spezifisch für die Ökobilanzierung der stofflichen Biomassenutzung sind.
Das Projekt wird durch das Bundesministerium für Ernährung und Landwirtschaft (BMEL) gefördert.
